Carbon Footprint and Management

Introduction

Typically, a carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions. Of particular interest to us are the actions in the manufacturing industries, particularly with how their scheduled waste is managed. This is where we are able to help reduce the carbon footprint of manufacturing industries.

Greenhouse Gases (GHG)

The main gases responsible for the greenhouse effect include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor (which all occur naturally), and fluorinated gases (which are synthetic). Greenhouse gases have different chemical properties and are removed from the atmosphere, over time, by different processes.

Very simply a ‘cradle to grave’ approach for scheduled waste management is the premature end to the waste by incineration and or landfill – both of which generates GHG and is not environmentally sustainable.

Sagefuels®

Re-Use, Re-Cycle and Re-Purpose and that’s what we do. How does this help with GHG, global warming and climate change?

  • Recovering latent energy from scheduled waste

    • Instead of ending the life of the scheduled waste in a single pass - we recover the energy by producing a solid fuel to replace coal – a non-renewable and polluting fuel.

    • This averts the waste from being landfilled – landfilling is an environmental time bomb, both displacing arable land for other sustainable use and the risk of ground and ground water contamination. Landfills too generate GHG.

    • Reduces the need for intensive mining and use of coal – both of which are not sustainable.

    • Climate change management is all about keeping the GHG emission levels below a scientifically modelled threshold – the tipping point to be avoided.

    • The Sagefuels® solution is all about staying away from the tipping point.

  • The Inevitable

    • Malaysia has ratified and is a party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

    • The government of Malaysia has targeted to be carbon neutral by 2050

    • Many developed nations have imposed some form of carbon tax and are imposing Carbon Footprint Reduction (CFR) targets.

    • All responsible businesses in Malaysia should know their carbon footprint, particularly with their scheduled waste generation and management.
